TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Institute of Politics at Florida State University (IOP@FSU) released the latest installment in its innovative “Why We Serve” video interview series today.
The episode features State Rep. Evan Jenne (D-Hollywood), who is also the co-minority leader in the Florida House of Representatives. The series is a student-led project established to help young leaders connect with state legislators from both major political parties and learn about civic engagement through public service.
“Why We Serve” includes Republican and Democrat lawmakers explaining why they chose public service and offering advice to those looking to follow a similar path into elected office.
In his interview, Rep. Jenne explains that helping constituents solve real-world problems is what he enjoys most about serving.
“Knowing that somebody came into my office, called my office, or emailed my office with a problem that was going to hinder them from becoming everything they could be is hands down, my favorite thing,” he said. “When we’re in session, my absolute favorite thing is doing my best to leave the state a little better than I found it.”
FSU College of Social Sciences and Public Policy Dean Tim Chapin thanked Rep. Jenne for participating.
“It’s an honor to have Rep. Evan Jenne participate in this important project and help advance the mission of the Institute of Politics at Florida State University,” said Chapin. “As a distinguished legislator in the Florida House of Representatives – and an FSU alumnus – we appreciate him sharing his views on the value of promoting bipartisanship and civil discourse in the Sunshine State.”
